UP CM Adityanath exempts Ayodhya temples, other religious places from civil taxes

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday visited the temple town of Ayodhya and asked the city’s municipal corporation not to levy commercial tax on temples and other religious places. On his first visit to Ayodhya after assuming charge of the state for a second term, Adityanath also reviewed preparations for the upcoming Ram Navami fair in the temple town.

Around 10 lakh devotees are expected to attend the fair, which will be held after two years due to the Covid pandemic. In Ayodhya, Adityanath also offered prayers at the Hanumangarhi temple and visited the construction site of the Lord Ram temple.

The Chief Minister later also visited Balrampur district and offered prayers at three temples there. He will spend the night at Devi Patan temple there and leave for Siddharthnagar on Saturday. Meanwhile, a report from Gorakhpur said that CM Adityanath will observe a nine-day fast during “Chaitra Navratri” beginning Saturday and perform special puja there for peace, prosperity, health and happiness in the state and the nation.

In Mandir Nagari, Adityanath asked the Ayodhya Municipal Corporation not to collect commercial tax from temples and other religious places. The CM said that the Municipal Corporation should not collect house tax, water tax, sewer tax at commercial rates from monasteries, temples, dharamshalas and charitable organizations as all these institutions do charity work and public service. The Chief Minister asked the civic body to take only financial support from religious places as a token economic contribution.

The CM also directed the Ayodhya Municipal Corporation to make a proposal in this regard and get approval from the government. After laying the foundation stone of Ram Mandir in August 2020, this will be the first Ram Navami Mela after the COVID pandemic and the CM asked the officials to organize this fair with grandeur and make special efforts to bring Ayodhya on the world map. While reviewing the preparations for the fair, Adityanath said in his address that the construction of Ram temple has started and thousands of devotees from all over India will visit Ayodhya every day. He said that keeping this in mind, create an attractive atmosphere and decorate Ayodhya in such a way that the devotees get the complete atmosphere of Ramayana period.

During his visit, the CM met Mahant Nritya Gopal Das, President of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust and Mahant Kaushal Kishore, senior seer of Bhaktmal. The report from Gorakhpur states that while observing a nine-day fast during Chaitra Navratri, the Chief Minister will perform a special puja for peace and prosperity in the state and the nation. Dwarka Tiwari of the temple told that with the worship of Maa Shailputri on Saturday, Durga Saptashati recitation will start in the Shakti temple located on the first floor of the Gorakhnath Temple Math.

Acharya Ramanuj Tripathi of Gorakhnath temple said that Nisha worship will be done on Ashtami day on 9th April and Kanya Pujan will be done on Navami on 10th April. He expressed hope that the Chief Minister and Gorakshpeethdheeshvar Yogi Adityanath can attend the Kanya Pujan program of the temple.
