UP CM Yogi Adityanath changed the name of Jhansi railway station

Uttar Pradesh’s Jhansi railway station will now be known as ‘Veerangana Laxmibai Railway Station’, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced on Wednesday.

Lakshmibai was one of the most famous leaders of the rebellion during the British period. She was martyred in a battle with the British Army at Gwalior on June 18, 1858.

Earlier this year, the Uttar Pradesh government had proposed to rename the Jhansi railway station and name it ‘Veerangana Laxmibai Railway Station’.

The state government had sent the proposal to the Union Home Ministry.

Earlier, the state government had renamed Allahabad as Prayagraj, Faizabad as Ayodhya and Mughalsarai railway station as Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay railway station.
