UP CM Yogi Adityanath orders: Pay farmers within 72 hours of wheat purchase

After procurement of the rabi crop at the fixed Minimum Support Price (MSP) for 2022-23 began on Friday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath issued instructions to officials to transfer money to farmers’ bank accounts within 72 hours.

The government has set a target to procure 60 lakh metric tonnes of wheat this year. The central government has fixed the MSP for wheat at Rs 2,015 per quintal, which is Rs 40 more than last year’s Rs 1,975 per quintal.

Presiding over a high-level review meeting of officials, Adityanath said, “The officers should make all necessary arrangements for procurement of wheat in their respective districts so that farmers do not face any problem.”

As per the information given by the officials of the department, so far more than 1,48,383 farmers have registered to sell their produce. A total of 4,593 centers have been opened for the convenience of the farmers and procurement has started at 3,980 centres.

The CM has also directed the officials to ensure timely lifting of the crop from the mandis and make all necessary arrangements.

The designated institutions for procurement are Food and Civil Supplies Department, UP Sahakari Union (PCF), UP Sahakari Union Limited (PCU), Mandi Parishad, UP Consumer Cooperative Union (UPS), SFC and BFC.

The UP government has introduced new tools and techniques to help the farmers. The procurement is being done on the basis of biometric verification of farmers or their authorized representative through e-pop at the centres.
