UP government orders probe into Ayodhya land deals near Ram temple

The Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government on Wednesday ordered a probe into reports that relatives of BJP leaders and government officials have allegedly bought land near the upcoming Ram temple in Ayodhya.
The UP government has sought a report within a week and the matter will be probed by the special secretary revenue.
The Congress on Wednesday sought response from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on these allegations and said that the matter should be fully investigated. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi led the party’s charge, saying on Twitter that “Hindutva loots under the guise of religion”.
In a tweet in Hindi, he said, “Hindu follows the path of truth. Hindutva loots under the guise of religion.” The court, while delivering the verdict in the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid dispute, cleared the way for the construction of the Ram temple.
Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge also sought to raise the issue, but when he stood up to speak, the House was adjourned sine die.
Congress general secretary and chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala termed it a “land scam”, saying “there is open loot of land inside Ayodhya city by people affiliated with the BJP”.
“Respected Modi ji, when will you open your mouth on this open loot? Congress party, people of the country and Ram Bhakt are asking these questions. Is this not sedition? Is it less than sedition? BJP is now running ‘Andher’ in Ayodhya The business of ‘Nagri, Chaupat Raja’,” he told reporters.
“When will it be investigated? Will it be investigated?” Asking the Prime Minister to clarify his position, he said. “It is clear here that brother-in-law of BJP Mayor sold land worth Rs 18 crore to Ram Mandir Trust in 5 minutes. People can’t sell, they are also snatched from donations given by Ram Mandir Trust.”
Surjewala said, “Modi ji, why are you silent on the fact that BJP MLAs, BJP mayors and people holding other key posts are grabbing the land of weaker sections and Dalits.” The Congress leader alleged that there was no greater sin than “grabbing” properties around the Ram temple complex in Ayodhya by BJP leaders and officials. He said, “Prime Minister, will you get the probe done or will you give protection to all of them! Now your credibility is at stake.”
