UP MLA murder: Main accused in witness’s murder killed in encounter

Sources say that accused Arbaaz was shot in the chest during a police encounter at Nehru Park in Dhumanganj.

A constable was injured in the encounter, while Inspector Rajesh Maurya received a bullet injury in his hand.

Arbaaz was taken to the hospital where he was declared brought dead.

Umesh Pal, the key witness in the 2005 murder case of Bahujan Samaj Party MLA Raju Pal, was shot dead on Friday while getting out of the back seat of a Hyundai Creta SUV in Prayagraj.

The CCTV footage showed Umesh Pal and one of his two police bodyguards stepping out of the SUV when suddenly a man appeared from behind and shot him. Umesh Pal, who appeared to be injured, ran towards a lane to chase the assailant while his bodyguards lay injured on the road. The assailant shot him there one last time before fleeing.

Police said Umesh Pal was taken to a local hospital, where he died during treatment.

Prayagraj police chief Ramit Sharma told reporters, “The incident took place just outside Umesh Pal’s house. So far it has been confirmed that two bombs were hurled and they were fired from a small weapon.”
