Upcoming Maruti and Toyota mid-size SUVs: To rival Creta, Seltos – Times of India

For the past two decades, mid-sized SUVs have been gaining popularity in India. vehicle manufacturers such as Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Tata Motors and Mahindra have been the biggest players in the mid-sized segment, offering a wide range of models to the Indian car buyers. DNGA Platform
The upcoming Maruti and Toyota SUVs will be built on the Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA) platform with a new suspension setup and underbody. Specifically designed for emerging markets, the new DNGA platform provides a high-stiffness body while reducing the vehicle’s weight.

The Maruti Suzuki and Toyota prototypes have been previously spotted under heavy camouflage during testing. Coming to the SUV “Toyota D22”, the silhouette looks like corolla cross and the RAV4 SUV. In addition to this, the SUV is expected to get split headlamps with dual LED DRLs and bigger air dams following the honeycomb mesh pattern.
On the other hand, Maruti YFG will get a new grille and split headlamp setup with LED DRLs. The SUV’s design will be further enhanced by new alloy wheels, ORVMs with turn indicators as well as 200 mm higher ground clearance.
Maruti and Toyota mid-size SUV details are yet to be revealed, however, both the SUVs are likely to get a larger touchscreen information display, connected car technology and more.

In terms of engines, the upcoming Maruti and Toyota SUV will be powered by a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated K15B mill that churns out 104hp power and 138Nm torque. There are rumors doing the rounds that the engine performance will be further enhanced with hybrid technology for better fuel economy.
India launch
The Maruti and Toyota SUVs are expected to be launched in India in the second half of 2022 (closer to the Diwali festive season).
