Updated Maruti Suzuki Eeco MPV Launched

Maruti Suzuki has updated its Eeco MPV line-up and replaced the old 1.2-litre G-Series powerplant with the 1.2-litre K-Series engine. The Eeco also gets new features like a digital instrument cluster and an engine immobilizer, similar to the Celerio and S Presso.

With the updates, Maruti Suzuki has got the Tour V (fleet only) with prices starting at ₹5.10 lakh and the Eeco (fleet and private) starting at ₹5.13 lakh.

Maruti Suzuki is streamlining its engine line-up ahead of the implementation of the new, stricter set of emission norms – Real Driving Emission (RDE) norms. The brand will be discontinuing the Alto 800 and its 796 cc engine, which powers only one model. Similarly, the 1.2-litre G-series engine, which was only seen on the Eeco, is also being dropped, making way for the new K-series 1.2-litre Dualjet powerplant, which produces 81hp and 104.4Nm. In CNG mode the engine produces 72hp and 95Nm of torque. The only transmission on offer is a five-speed manual.

Maruti Suzuki claims that the updated Eeco delivers fuel efficiency of 19.71kpl in petrol-only mode, which is higher than the 16.11kpl achieved by the outgoing engine. Meanwhile, the S-CNG variants return a fuel efficiency of 26.78 kg/km, up from 20.88 kg/km.

The Tour V variant benefits from slightly increased fuel efficiency, where the petrol-only mode returns 20.20kpl and the CNG mode delivers 27.05kg/km.

The updated Eeco gets a new steering wheel and digital instrument cluster. Both are now shared with the S-Presso and Celerio. The AC controls are also new rotary units that replace the sliding ones. Additionally, the Cerulean Blue exterior paint shade has been replaced by a new Metallic Brisk Blue. Apart from this, the Eco Cargo variant now gets 60 liters of additional cargo space.

At this price, the Eeco is still a simple MPV that doesn’t even get power steering in any variant. The Renault Triber is the only three-row MPV that comes close to it at this price point and size, but it is better equipped and more spacious.

The Eeco started its life in India in 2001 as the Versa. The MPV was re-introduced as the Eeco in 2010 with a lower entry price, and since then, there has been no looking back for the model. Maruti Suzuki claims that it has sold over 9.75 lakh units of the Eeco till date.
