UPSC GK Capsule: Know Important Events of the Week

Around a week is left for the UPSC application process to end, candidates who are willing to apply or have already applied must stay updated with the current news events. One of the most competitive government job entrances, this year’s recruitment drive will fill up 861 vacancies. The registration process will continue till February 22 and the preliminary exam will be held on June 5. Here’s your weekly dose of last week’s news:

Protests broke out in several parts of Karnataka after hijab-wearing Muslim students were denied admission to a PU college in Udupi last month. Some Male students of Bhandarkar College in Kundapur wearing saffron shawls Opposed the wearing of hijab by Muslim students. A petition has been filed in the Karnataka High Court which later passed an interim order barring students from wearing any religious attire in colleges. The court is scheduled to hear the matter next Monday.

Ishan Kishan’s highest bid in IPL auction 2022

Wicket-keeper batsman Ishan Kishan was bought by Mumbai Indians for 15.25 crores during the mega auction of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. With this Kishan became the biggest buy during the IPL auction this year. Deepak Chahar was bought by Chennai Super Kings for Rs 14 crores and Shreyas Iyer was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 12.25 crores.

Adani among the top 10 richest people in the world

Earlier last week, Gautam Adani surpassed Mukesh Ambani as the 10th richest person in the world with a net worth of $88.5 billion. According to Bloomberg, Elon Musk is the richest person in the world with a net worth of $235 billion. He is followed by Jeff Bezos, Bernard Arnault, Bill Gates, Larry Page and Sergey Brin.

Assembly elections

Assembly elections have begun in five states of Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur. The elections will be held in seven phases. Voting has started in UP from February 10. Polling will be held in a single phase in Punjab, Uttarakhand and Goa on February 14. Voting will be held in Manipur in two phases from February 27. The results of all the assembly elections will be as follows. Announced on 10 March.

First case of monkey fever reported in Kerala

A 24-year-old man from Kerala has developed monkey fever, which is the first case in the state this year. Also known as Kyasanur Forest Disease (KFD), another case was reported in Karnataka last month. A vector-borne disease, monkey fever causes vomiting, body aches, nausea and fever that lasts for 5-12 days.
