UPSC IES, ISS Exam 2022: Exam Scheme

Section I

The exam will be conducted as per the following scheme –

Part I – Written test of maximum 1000 marks in subjects as shown below.

Part II – Oral voice of such candidates as may be called by the Commission with a maximum of 200 marks.

The subjects of the written examination under Part-I, the maximum marks allotted for each subject/paper and the time allowed will be as follows:

Candidates should note that there will be penalty (negative marking) for wrong answers marked by the candidate in the objective type question paper.

Statistics I and II will be objective type questions (80 questions with maximum 200 marks in each paper) to be solved in 120 minutes. Statistics III & IV will be of descriptive type consisting of short answer/short problem questions (50%) and long answer and comprehension problem questions (50%). At least one short answer and one long answer question from each section is mandatory. In Statistics-IV, the paper will have seven sections. Candidates have to choose any two sections from them. All sections will carry equal marks.

The questions on General English and General Studies for both Indian Economic Service and Indian Statistical Service will be of subjective type. All other papers of Indian Economic Service will be of subjective type.


UPSC IES, ISS Exam 2022: Important Instructions

1. Check the e-Admit Card carefully and bring the discrepancies, if any, to the notice of the Union Public Service Commission immediately.

2. Mention your name, roll number, registration ID and name and year of examination in all correspondence with UPSC.

3. Bring the E-Admit Card (Print Out) along with the (Original) Photo Identity Card, the number of which is mentioned in the E-Admit Card, in each session to ensure entry to the Examination Hall. The e-Admit Card should be kept safe till the declaration of final result of IES/ISS Examination, 2022.

4. You are responsible for the safe custody of the e-Admit Card and in the event of any other person using this e-Admit Card, it is on you to prove that you have not used the service of an impersonator .

5. Please note that the entrance to the examination venue will be closed 10 minutes before the scheduled time of examination i.e. 08:50 for AM session and 01:50 hrs for afternoon session. No candidate will be allowed to enter the examination venue after the closure of admission.

6. Candidates are advised to visit their examination venue at least one day in advance and in their own interest to familiarize themselves with the itinerary to avoid last minute hassle. Candidates are advised to enter the examination venue on time to conduct the search.

7. Candidates should note that they will not be allowed to sit at any examination venue other than the one mentioned in the e-admit card.

8. Please read the ‘Poster’ containing the Examination Information and Instructions displayed outside the Examination Venue available on the UPSC website https://upsc.gov.in.

9. Your candidature for the examination is provisional.

10. The candidate must have a mobile phone (even in switched off mode), pager or any electronic device or programmable device or storage media like pen drive, smart watch etc., or camera or bluetooth device or any should not be. Other equipment or related accessories either working or in switched off mode capable of being used as communication device during the examination. Any violation of these instructions will result in disciplinary action including ban from future examinations.

11. Use of normal or simple wrist watch by the candidates is permitted inside the examination halls/rooms. However, the use of watches fitted with any special accessory that can be used as communication devices or smart watches is strictly prohibited and candidates are not allowed to carry such watches to the examination hall/ hall.

12. The candidates will be permitted to use the Scientific (Non-programmable type) calculator only in the descriptive type papers of the examination. Programmable type of calculators will not be allowed and use of such calculators will amount to resort to unfair means by the candidates. Borrowing or exchange of calculators is not allowed in the examination hall. No calculator will be allowed in the objective type papers of the examination.

13. Candidates are advised not to bring any valuable/expensive items and bags to the examination venue, as safe keeping cannot be assured. The Commission will not be responsible for any loss in this regard.

14. The candidates who do not have clear photographs on the e-admit card will have to produce one photo identity proof and two passport size photographs for each session for appearing in the examination along with an affidavit.
15. Candidates should note that any omission/mistake/discrepancy in filling the encoding/details in the OMR/Answer Sheet/Book especially with respect to Roll Number and Test Booklet Series Code, Answer Sheet/Book will be liable for rejection.

16. Candidates, who have chosen their own author, may note that their own author will be allowed for the test only with a separate e-admit card for such author. The e-admit cards for own scribes will be issued separately.

17. There will be penalty (negative marking) for marking wrong answers by a candidate in the objective type question papers for IES examination.

18. Answers other than those given by black point pen in the objective papers of IES examination will not be evaluated.

19. Wearing of mask/face cover is mandatory for all candidates. Candidates without mask/face cover will not be allowed to enter the venue.

20. However, candidates will have to remove their mask for verification as and when required by the examination officials.

21. The candidate can carry his/her own hand sanitizer (small size) in a transparent bottle.

22. Candidates should follow the COVID 19 norms of ‘Social Distancing’ as well as ‘Personal Hygiene’ in the premises of the Examination Hall/Rooms as well as Venue.
