US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, announced on Friday that the US would provide an additional $350 million in immediate military aid to Ukraine to help Russia protect itself from an “unprovoked and unjustified war.”

“The package will include more lethal defensive aid to help Ukraine deal with armored, aerial and other threats,” AFP news agency quoted Blinken as saying.

The announcement comes hours after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky turned down a US offer to evacuate Kiev at the behest of the US government.

Zelensky replied: “The fight is here; I want ammunition, not rides,” according to a senior US intelligence official with direct knowledge of the conversation, who told Zelensky excited.

In an apparently besieged movement after airstrikes on cities and military bases across the country, invading Russian forces closed in on the Ukrainian capital on Saturday.
