US-based EV maker Fisker Inc sets up India headquarters in Hyderabad – Times of India

Fisker Inc. is an American electric vehicle automaker founded by Heinrich Fisker In 2016, located in Southern California. Before the company Fisker Automotive produced fisher’s karma – A luxury plug-in range-extending electric sports sedan. Fisker Inc has now announced that it has set up shop in India, hinting that its EVs may be introduced here in the coming years.

The unit will be known as ‘Fisker Science India’, and will be responsible for software development and embedded electronics, machine learning, virtual vehicle development support functions and data analytics. With this move, Fisker Inc can launch its electric vehicles in the Indian market, however, it still has at least a few years to go. That said, Fisker is set to begin production of its first all-electric Ocean SUV in November this year at the company’s manufacturing partner Magna Steyr’s facility in Graz, Austria. The Fisker Ocean pits itself directly against the Tesla Model Y in the US, with the former having a WLTP-claimed range of up to 440 km in the Sport trim and up to 630 km in the Extreme trim. Note that there is no confirmation yet from the California-based brand regarding the launch of the Fisker Ocean or any other EV in the Indian market.
