US Fishermen Catch Rarely Spotted Jet Black River Beast in Texas, Internet Calls It “Terrible”

Giant fish are rare and endangered.

American fishermen Justin Jordan and Terrell Maguire recently caught a rare jet-black river animal in southeast Texas. talking to newsweekMr. Jordan, a fishing guide in Texas, explained that the creature he caught was a “very rare” melanistic crocodile. He said the fish was about 5 feet long, however, he added, adding that the species has been known to reach “enormous lengths.”

Mr Jordan shared several photos on social media that showed the jet-black creature running around in the water. “Ok…me and Terrell found out melanistic gars exist yesterday..,” he wrote in the post’s caption.

The pictures depict the “creepy” creature with its mouth wide open, displaying a row of large white teeth. Since being shared, the images of its bizarre look have left social media users puzzled. While some called the animal a “terrifyingly scary”, others described it as a “creature from an alien”. “TERRIFYING,” wrote the third.

Meanwhile, according to newsweek, Alligator gars are the largest of the gar fish species. They live only in North and Central America and are known for their large size. Giant fish are rare and endangered and are usually dark green or olive in color.

Media outlets reported that those who are all black, such as this one, are even rarer. Not much is known about this black species. Scientists have not been able to track their population as well, or document their abundance in the Texas River.

The species are harmless to humans but due to their large size, they can fight if caught. Their preferred habitat consists of large, slow rivers, which often become regurgitated or dredged.
