Seoul:

North Korea said on Thursday that the United States was overreacting to its recent missile test and questioned the sincerity of Washington’s offer of talks, warning of consequences.

An unnamed spokesman for Pyongyang’s foreign ministry said this week’s test of a new ballistic missile from a submarine was part of North Korea’s mid- and long-term plan to strengthen self-defense and was not aimed at the United States or any other country. To the official KCNA news agency.

The spokesman said Washington had taken “highly provocative steps”, calling the test a violation of UN Security Council resolutions and a threat to regional peace and stability.

The Security Council met on Wednesday at the request of the United States and Britain, and the US envoy urged Pyongyang to accept the talks proposals, reiterating that Washington has no hostile intentions.

A State Department spokesman said the United States’ “double standards” on missile development cast doubt on its proposals.

“It’s a clear double standard that the United States condemns us for developing and testing the same weapons systems it already has or is developing, and it only adds doubt to their integrity after saying that They have no animosity towards us,” the spokesperson said. A statement made by KCNA.

The United States and the council could face “more serious and dire consequences” if they opt for misconduct, the spokesperson said, warning against “fiddling with time bombs.”
