Lucknow: At least eight people died while participating in the immersion of Durga idols in seven separate incidents on Wednesday.

In Barabanki, two persons were electrocuted at puja pandals in separate incidents when current was passed over steel railings installed for smooth flow of crowd inside the pandals.
In another incident reported from saints Kabir NagarEight were injured in the accident of a group of men returning from Durga idol immersion on a tractor-trolley.
In Rae Bareli, a Home Guard jawan was pushed into the river by the local musclemen after he stopped them from immersing the idol in the river. They suffered minor injuries, while two men were later arrested for the crime.
Additional Director General, Law & Order, Prashant Kumar He said that overall the immersion of Durga idols in the state remained peaceful, while 38,600 Durga Puja pandals were set up across the state, out of which 35,960 Durga idols were immersed as per rituals till Thursday.
“For others, the district administration and the police are helping to conduct the immersion,” Kumar said.
