Uttar Pradesh Elections: BJP registers first victory from Mant Constituency in Mathura. Agra News – Times of India

Agra: Eight-time winner, BSP Shyam Sundar Sharmawho was considered invincible Munt Constituency In Mathura District lost to BJP Rajesh Choudhary by a margin of over 9,000 votes.
Choudhary, who is the party’s state spokesperson, got 83,958 votes, while BSP’s Sharma got 74,378 votes.
Sharma, who switched parties on and off, began his winning streak in 1989 from the Mant constituency on a Congress ticket. In the 2012 elections, he lost to RLD. Jayant Choudhary, However, within two months, the by-elections were held after Choudhary stepped down and retained the Mathura Lok Sabha seat. Sharma won the bypoll on a Trinamool Congress ticket.
In the last assembly elections in 2017, Sharma had jumped the fence and joined BSP ahead of the election and won by a margin of only 432 votes over RLD candidate Yogesh Choudhary, who got 65430 votes.
Though BJP had won all the seats in Mathura district in 2017, they were defeated in Mant. The Samajwadi Party had fielded Sanjay Lather, a close aide of Akhilesh Yadav, and the BJP had fielded Rajesh Chaudhary from Mant against Sharma to stop Sharma’s victory march.
Mathura (city) seat was retained by UP cabinet minister Shrikant Sharma, who again defeated former CLP leader Pradeep Mathur by a margin of over 1 lakh votes. Mathur, who won from here four times, got only 49,056 votes as against Sharma who got 1,58,859 votes.
In Chhatta, UP cabinet minister, Laxmi Narayan Choudhary has also retained his seat by a margin of 48,498 votes over RLD candidate Tejpal Singh who got 75,466 votes.
In Baldev, sitting BJP MLA Puran Prakash won the seat by a margin of 15,353 votes. RLD candidate Babita Devi got 73,746 votes. In Govardhan constituency, Thakur Meghshyam Singh (BJP) secured 59,679 votes, defeating Rajkumar Rawat of BSP who got 33,095 votes.
BJP MP from Mathura Hema Malini said that she always believed that BJP will achieve historic victory in UP, also Yogi Adityanath will form the government in 2022. “The Yogi-led government has brought a lot of development across the state and this victory is the result of that,” he said. He said that people have faith in his government. Women are feeling themselves safe in Yogi Sarkar and that’s why they voted for him.
