Uttar Pradesh: Samajwadi Party to submit proof of deletion of voters’ names to Election Commission today

A delegation of Samajwadi Party (SP) will visit here Election The commission on Thursday asked it to respond in writing to the notice issued on allegations that the names of Yadav and Muslim voters were largely deleted from the electoral rolls earlier this year at the behest of the BJP.

Senior party leaders said the delegation would take specific examples of missing names and also hand over the voter list of booths where names were struck off at the last minute.

SP national spokesperson Rajendra Choudhary said: “We will submit documents to the commission on Thursday that we have managed to gather the time we have got to support our claims.”

Former minister Ravidas Mehrotra said: “Actually, we had found this discrepancy during the election and we had informed our national president about it. It was only on the basis of the feedback we got from the candidates that they said what they said. We have now collected the voter list and verified the names which were given to the party with limited time to file their replies, which were struck off as per our capacity.”

The SP leadership had sent a circular to the candidates contesting the assembly elections on party tickets, asking them to produce documentary evidence in this regard.

A senior leader overseeing the compilation process said, “We have come across instances where names in hundreds, in some instances, were dropped from the list of a booth at the last minute.”

On October 27, the Election Commission had issued a notice to the national president of the SP. Akhilesh Yadav Ahead of the elections, each assembly constituency at the behest of the BJP asked the commission to provide proof of allegations of deletion of names of around 20,000 Yadav and Muslim voters.

The SP chief has been asked to produce documentary evidence in support of his allegations by November 10.

Akhilesh made the allegations while addressing the delegates at the party’s national convention held in Lucknow in September.
