Tiwari said that before he could start bathing, a boatman convinced him and his family to go to the opposite bank of the river in his boat to see and take a bath. After bathing on the other shore, they boarded the boat to go back. Meanwhile, it started raining heavily and Tiwari asked the sailor to stop. He alleged that the sailor said that despite the rain, there would be no problem in crossing the river.
However, when the boat reached midway, water started seeping into the boat and the boat capsized.
Apart from Tiwari, Vikas (28), Deepak (27), Alka (9), Ritika (7) and their driver were rescued by the people and boatmen near the ghat, police said. However, Gudiya (28), Khushboo (30), Anisha (26), Satyam (5), a two-year-old girl and a three-month-old girl are feared drowned.
Efforts were being made to trace the missing women and children, but the search operation was facing difficulties due to the strong current in the river.
