uttarakhand cabinet approves proposal for ‘parking tunnel’ for 180 sites

Considering the high traffic of pilgrims and tourists packed with hill stations across the state, the cabinet approved the proposal of the Public Works Department (PWD) to have small tunnels to be used as parking lots at 180 sites. construction was suggested. Officials assured that the tunnel would be dug without affecting the delicate mountainous landscape.

Chief Secretary SS Sandhu said, “This will be a first of its kind project. The tunnels with small entry and exit points will have a capacity to accommodate around 200 cars. We have appointed three executive agencies- Rail Vikas Nigam. Ltd., Tehri. Hydro Power Development Corporation and Uttarakhand Vidyut Jal Nigam Limited- to undertake the tunnel construction work, “Before construction of these tunnels, a geological survey will be conducted to check the feasibility of the project,” he said.

Chief Secretary SS Sandhu informed about all the decisions taken by the cabinet under the chairmanship of CM Pushkar Singh Dhami, Of the 36 proposals placed before the cabinet, 35 were approved and 1 was considered by a committee headed by the chief secretary.

To reduce the destruction caused by landslides every year, the cabinet has approved the establishment of Uttarakhand Landslide Mitigation and Management Center. Dehradun, The center will map the most vulnerable places and take mitigation measures accordingly. The cabinet has approved a staff of 75 members for the Centre.

Other major decisions include preparing a uniform rent index for setting up mobile telecom towers in different parts of the state and allotting 100 acres of land free of cost to the Centre. AIIMS Rishikesh in Kichha (Udham Singh Nagar).

Apart from the above decisions, the cabinet also laid out other schemes regarding the MSME sector, ropeway terminal construction, legislation and bureaucracy.
