Uttarakhand CM directs officials to set up rehabilitation center at Joshimath in view of landslide

Dehradun (Uttarakhand). [India]Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Friday directed to set up a large temporary rehabilitation center in the town in view of the landslide in Joshimath.

Chief Minister Dhami presided over a high level meeting at the Secretariat. He directed the officials to set up a temporary rehabilitation center at a safe place in Joshimath. He said that sector and zone-wise planning should be made in Joshimath.

The Chief Minister directed that the danger zone should be vacated immediately and the disaster control room at Joshimath should be activated without delay.

Following reports of a landslide in Joshimath, the Chamoli district administration on Friday directed the immediate deployment of a National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team in the town.

A team of experts, including officials from the administration and state disaster management, conducted a house-to-house survey in the landslide-affected areas in Joshimath, Uttarakhand.

Garhwal Commissioner Sushil Kumar and Disaster Management Secretary Ranjit Kumar Sinha started door-to-door survey in Joshimath.

Out of 561 establishments, 153 are in Ravigram ward, 127 in Gandhinagar ward, 28 in Marwari ward, 24 in Lower Bazar ward, 52 in Singhdhar ward, 71 in Manohar Bagh ward, 29 in Upper Bazar ward, 27 Chamoli according to the statement of district administration. Ward and 50 wards of Parasari have reported cracks.

The operation of Hotel View and Malari Inn has been banned under the Disaster Management Act, 2005 till further orders, the statement said.

A total of nine families were displaced on Thursday, including four families from Joshimath Municipal Corporation, one Gurdwara Joshimath, one tourist hostel Manohar Bagh and others.

A total of 38 families have been displaced so far.

Significantly, Joshimath Municipal President Shailendra Pawar said that due to leakage of water from inside the land in Marwari ward, big cracks have appeared in the houses.

The Chamoli district administration on Thursday asked Hindustan Construction Company Limited (HCC) and National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) to be prepared to provide shelter to affected families who have fled Joshimath in Uttarakhand due to landslides. (ANI)
