VADODARA: Five teachers of MS University’s Faculty of Fine Arts have been given time till Tuesday to submit their comments regarding the controversy over ‘objectionable’ artefacts.
These include three teachers including the dean in charge. Dr. Jairam PoduvalDr Shanta Sarvaiya and Dr Aqueel Ahmed have been served show cause notices by the university authorities, while two other teachers – Dr Kashyap Parikh and Dr Indrapramit Roy – have been asked to submit explanations.
The controversy over alleged ‘objectionable’ artefacts came to the fore on May 5, when right-wing organizations protested at the faculty over artworks made by a student, Kundan Kumar Yadav – a visual arts student of the sculpture department, who protested reports of rape. did. Faculty officials had claimed that the artifacts were not of the faculty. Following the controversy, a nine-member committee was constituted by the university authorities, which held the teachers responsible for dereliction of duty.
The university has already dismissed the student while the teachers are being asked for an explanation. Meanwhile, alumni of the faculty have reportedly condemned the decision taken by the university authorities.
“We, alumni of the Faculty of Fine Arts, would like to condemn the mob violence at our alma mater. We also protest the attack and expulsion of one of our students and the lack of action against those who Violated our institution and assaulted a current student,” a statement from the alumni said.
The statement alleged that the examination process was disrupted by mobs, public property was vandalized and students and staff of the faculty were subjected to physical and verbal threats on May 5.
