A supporting actor steps up the game and becoming a leading actor as well as a brand is no easy feat. being one of the boys in Saroj: Now to make a guest appearance as himself, Vaibhav has come a long way. However, with a film like clown The excitement of watching ‘Vaibhav Film’ releasing this week is not as much as you might expect, for an actor who has delivered hits like Mayadha Mann (2017).

Oddly enough, for many members of the audience, it still looks like he is in the process of becoming a full-fledged lead actor. Vaibhav agrees. “I think it has something to do with the films that I’ve done all these years. I haven’t found a good commercial mainstream film like Stars… Adhu Amayala Innum, But I want to do such films and I have heard some such scripts.”

before the release of clown, he gets candid and speaks about his career so far, the actor he is known as, and more. Conversation excerpts:

You are known for collaborating with budding artists, and so is the case with ‘Buffoon’, which is directed by debutant Ashok Veerappan. Why did you choose this script?

Characteristic of my role. i play a therukuthu Artist, which gave me a great opportunity to explore that art form. As a thriller script, I liked how balanced it was.

The trailer shows your character getting into trouble, but there is a lot of mystery on what the struggle is all about. A dialogue compares it to ‘a crime worse than murder…’

This is what makes this film special. How does this man get stuck in this swamp and how does he come out of it, what is it? clown about.

We know how much the audience loved the songs of ‘Maiyadha Maan’, and now after a long time, you are working again with music composer Santhosh Narayanan for ‘Buffoon’…

just like Mayadha MannThe songs composed by Santosh sir will bring a lot of goodwill and appreciation to the film. madichu vecha vethala And Thani Marmai is being well received by the audience, but I am looking forward to the background score, which I felt was very well done, especially considering how such thriller films require a strong background score. Is.

What is your principle behind choosing the script? Do you know how the audience likes to see you on screen?

People like to see me in such a boy-next-door role – like in Mayadha Mann – But at the same time, I don’t want to be type-cast. So, although I can repeat a Mayadha Mann film type , I do not want. It’s a conscious decision I’ve been taking ever since Goarelease of. Later GoaI kept getting scripts which were very similar to that film.

But I want to be known as someone who invents new ideas; There is someone who does diverse roles and someone who never does two films that are similar to each other. So far, my only two movies – Horror Comedy hello naan pe pesuren And Katteri – Repeatedly, but it happened for reasons beyond my control.

Horror as a genre is overused in Tamil cinema now, isn’t it? Could this be one of the reasons for the overwhelming response to ‘Kattri’?

It is definitely overused. I don’t think horror will work anymore, unless it’s a very thrilling subject and the audience doesn’t expect it.

Yes, Katteri Average response was received, but it also had a lot to do with the delayed release. Had it been released four years earlier – when it was originally intended to come out – it probably would have worked better.

During the pandemic, you did Radha Mohan’s ‘Malaysia to Amnesia’, a small budget streaming release. Many people in the industry find it difficult to do a small film.

I just look at the content; I don’t care how big a movie it is. Also, during COVID-19, we could not go for the shoot and hence I got this film at the right time. It had a limited cast and crew. Also, that too when people were sitting at home and eager for new content. Choosing to do a film like this also comes down to my desire to be dynamic and diverse. May be sometime in the future people will see me as an actor who did a variety of roles; Someone like Vijay Sethupathi. Not everyone can be Rajinikanth or Kamal Haasan, but they can try to be Vijay Sethupathi.

You are known for your comedy, and you obviously don’t mind doing OTT content. Looks like you’d be perfect in a sitcom. Ever thought of getting one?

I can see myself doing a sitcom, but no one approached me with a script like this. However, I am currently doing a web-series for SonyLIV, which should be announced soon.

What’s next after ‘Buffoon’?

my next movie alamban And I hope it comes out this year. This is a film that needs a lot of CGI work, hence the delay. After that I will do a thriller.

Buffoon will release in cinemas on 23rd September
