‘Varudu Kavalenu’ movie review: Not a hit

Naga Shaurya and Ritu Varma starrer is a mature urban rom-com, but not flashy enough

In the second half of director Lakshmi Soumya varudu kavalenuWhen the scene for a wedding shifts from Hyderabad to Araku Valley, new characters are introduced. One character does everything at a humanly impossible slow pace and the other character wants everything to go fast. The tussle between them is laughable, and we hear a dialogue about ‘lag’ (a word commonly used to describe a sluggish pace in the language of Telugu film).

This is probably the makers’ way of commenting on the audience’s tendency to tell about the slow pace and to say that one needs to watch the film patiently, giving the characters time to introspect and resolve conflicts.

varudu kavalenu

  • Cast: Naga Shaurya, Ritu Verma, Murli Sharma
  • Direction: Lakshmi Sowjanya
  • Music: Vishal Chandrashekhar

Point noted. but the issue varudu kavalenu, its more than speed is that after establishing a promising base, it goes astray.

varudu kavalenu Strong headed Bhumi (Ritu Verma), who leads an eco-friendly start-up. The conversation in the house always revolves around her marriage. He doesn’t like the idea of‘Peli Chopulu’ And his mother Prabhavati (Nadiya) is making rounds of the coffee shop to meet the groom. At work, his stubborn and no-nonsense approach earns him the tag of ‘monstrous’.

It’s a relatable story – a woman facing constant pressure to get married at what is believed to be the right age. The doting father, played by Murli Sharma, understands that marriage is a long-term commitment that the girl should be interested in, not forced into.

Also, we are introduced to architect Akash (Naga Shaurya), who comes to India from Paris on a project and meets Bhumi. It turns out that Bhumi and Akash were friends in college. He is friendly, adores Bhumi and takes her harsh comments into his stride. Ganesh Ravuri’s dialogues are apt in conveying the thoughts of the characters and mixing enough wit from the supporting cast – oh, there’s a huge line-up. Venela Kishore, Himaja, Satya, Praveen, Saptagiri… each manages to generate a few laughs but there isn’t enough room to make a solid impression.

A few scenes unfold, as Murli Sharma explains why parents shouldn’t be worried about getting the girl married in a hurry, and Nadia crosses paths with Shaurya and the two lament about a stubborn woman. .

The stage is set for a romance between two independent and mature leads. In a real-life setting, one expects conflicts to arise from different approaches to life, career, family, or even personality traits. In this story, Bhumi has a problem expressing her feelings and an even bigger problem in listening to the other person. The over-led sky is at a disadvantage. But the cause of the conflict stems from the story of unrequited love, told through a flashback.

The story is punctuated by more than one song and comic episodes at a wedding, before the two come to common ground. The production design and cinematography are aesthetic but the film gets boring and never quite.

Ritu Varma and Naga Shaurya try to walk the film side by side with charm and honesty. This is one of the better roles offered to Ritu in recent times and she plays it gracefully. Shaurya is seen effortlessly playing the character of an iconic man who yearns for love and is ready to wait for the tide to come.

varudu kavalenu Works in parts. If it had been tightly edited, it could have been more compelling.
