India’s first semi-conductor plant: The Dholera Special Investment Region near Ahmedabad has been finalized by Foxconn and Indian conglomerate Vedanta to set up their semiconductor and display manufacturing plants, a senior government official said.

Vedanta and Foxconn signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Gujarat government in September 2022 to invest Rs 1,54,000 crore in the state.

Once set up, it will be India’s first semi-conductor manufacturing plant.

“After a detailed site analysis in consultation with the Government of Gujarat officials, the joint venture unit of Vedanta and Foxconn has selected Dholera SIR to set up its semiconductor and display manufacturing facility. The project is in an advanced stage of appraisal by the Government of India Yes, PTI quoted an official as saying.

Vedanta and Foxconn signed the MoU last year in Gandhinagar in the presence of Minister of Railways, Communications, Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnav.

Under the ‘Gujarat Semiconductor Policy 2022-27’, the project will get various subsidies and incentives, such as zero stamp duty on land purchase and subsidized water and electricity.
