Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) today released vehicle retail data for October 2021. The total number of new vehicle registrations last month stood at 13,64,526 units, a decline of 5.33 per cent as compared to 14,41,299 units sold in October 2020. However, it stood at 20,90,893 for the festive period of 42 days, which is a decline of over 18 per cent in 2020 as compared to 25,56,335 units sold during the same period. Vinkesh Gulati, President, FADA, said, “We have witnessed the worst festive season in the last decade. Semi-conductor shortage, which was already an absolute crisis, showed its true colors when, despite the above healthy demand, we continue to be our customers. could not meet the need.”

Retail sales of passenger vehicles stood at 2,28,431 units in October 2021, a decline of 11.38 per cent as compared to 2,57,756 units sold during the same month last year. During the 42-day festive period, two-wheeler sales stood at 15,79,642 units, a decline of 18.49 per cent, as against 19,38,066 units sold in 2020.

Last month, retail sales of two-wheelers stood at 9,96,024 units, a decline of 6 per cent as compared to 10,60,337 units sold in October 2020. However, during the 42-day festive period, when the retail sales of two-wheelers stood at 15,79,642. Units, the decline was three-fold at 18.49 per cent, as against 19,38,066 vehicles sold in 2020. “The 2W category is bearing the brunt of lower sales, with the entry-level category taking the biggest hit.
