The State Education Department and DEO will soon start the admission process under the RTE Act and only those schools will be allowed to admit students for the new academic session which have been verified.

Ahmedabad District Education Officer (DEO) has directed 40 schools in the city to conduct necessary verification for admission under the Right to Education (RTE) Act 2009 for the new academic year. According to Times of India, the DEO has also asked these schools to complete their verification process before March 10.

The directions come after these schools ignored several reminders to complete the verification process. The report further states that the State Education Department and DEO will soon start the admission process under the RTE Act and only those schools which have been verified will be allowed to admit students for the new academic session.

The school verification process started in January this year. Schools were also instructed to complete the process at the earliest. He was initially asked to complete his verification by February 27. However, due to delays, the deadline was further extended to accommodate the schools.

Meanwhile, sources say that the schools which are yet to be verified under the RTE Act include some very reputed schools which are located in the eastern parts of the city.

Earlier this month, the DEO wrote to around 200 primary schools in Ahmedabad to submit details of children admitted under the RTE Act. The report was to be submitted at the earliest so that the school could reimburse the amount of fees.

Under the RTE Act/Rules, the state government usually grants private schools a maximum of Rs 13,500 per child for their admission. Schools usually release the grants every year in March. In addition, schools charging less than Rs 13,500 as fee are reimbursed the actual fee amount.

As per media reports, around 70,000 children from economically poor families were to be admitted under the RTE Act in 2022.

Schools that do not submit details make it difficult for the Department of Education to calculate the disbursements that need to be made by the end of the financial year. The DEO had warned these schools that if they fail to submit the details within the stipulated time frame; Grant will not be given to them.
