Karnataka BJP MLA Mahila Virupakshappa, who has been granted anticipatory bail by the High Court in a corruption case, received a ‘hero’ welcome in her hometown Davanagere. Veerupakshappa was missing for the last five days after he was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 40 lakh along with four others. Crowds of people running alongside the MLA’s car in blocks from the States could be seen shouting. When these people burst firecrackers, the MLA, who was riding in a sun roof car, smiled and waved. The mother of the accused, Veerupappa, was named as principal in the case after son Prashant Kumar was caught last month allegedly taking bribe from the MLA’s father.

According to commissioner sources, Prashant was arrested by his father’s Bangalore based Karnataka Soap & Limited (KSDL) where he was taking bribe. According to the Lokayukta police, Prashant had demanded Rs 80 lakh as bribe. Prashant’s father is an MLA from Channigiri in Davangere district of Karnataka and accounts for KSDL. 2008 Officials of Prashanth of Karnataka Jump Service were caught bribing an identity for a deal to get Prashanth a chart owner required for making soaps and other contemporary. It is said that he had allegedly demanded Rs 80 lakh, which the scheme had complained to the Lokayukta a week ago, after which the plan was hatched to catch Prashant red-handed. A senior Lokayukta official said, “The money was received on behalf of KSDL chairman Veerupappa for the purchase of raw material. Your mouth doesn’t taste good.’ Kejriwal took a jibe at Prime Minister Modi while retweeting a tweet associated with BJP MLA Madal Virupakshappa in Karnataka. On March 3, the Lokayukta’s anti-corruption team arrested Virupakshappa for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 40 lakh.
