Video: Disneyland tourists take shelter after 6.2 magnitude earthquake in Tokyo

There is no news of any major damage from the earthquake.

According to Japan’s NHK, a magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck eastern Japan on May 26. The tremors shook buildings in Tokyo and also affected surrounding prefectures. Meanwhile, a video of tourists taking cover at the country’s Disneyland is going viral on the internet.

This video has been shared by Jeffrey J Hall on Twitter. In the beginning of the video, the feet of some people walking in the park are visible. Within seconds an earthquake warning is heard over the speaker. Guests at Disneyland Tokyo are then forced to sit near the theme park’s sidewalks and crowd the gift shop.

Since being shared, the video has garnered over 1.9 lakh views on the microblogging website. “‘Caution! Be prepared for a mighty earthquake!’ – A video from a few minutes ago shows Tokyo Disneyland’s earthquake warning system in action,” reads the caption of the 42-second video.

“It was longer and much stronger than the one we had a week ago,” said one user.

“Well, a new scare is open,” added a second person.

A third user shared, “It was alarming when we couldn’t understand what was going on and what people were saying while walking and finally realized it was real earthquake moments.”

One user said, “I was on the train and didn’t even notice.”

Another user commented, “A permanent earthquake!”

According to a report in The Independent, there were no reports of significant damage or casualties, although the epicenter was off the coast of Chiba and also affected Ibaraki Prefecture. No tsunami warning was issued.

It should be noted that Japan, being one of the most seismically active nations, experiences frequent earthquakes. A fifth of all global earthquakes with a magnitude of six or more occur in the country.
