On the occasion of Valentine’s Day, Indian Forest Service officer Parveen Kaswan shared a series of tweets highlighting a “beautiful love story” of the hornbill couple. The photographs and videos clicked by Mr Kaswan himself showcase the beautiful journey of the birds as they nurse their chicks.
The video’s caption reads, “Show me a more beautiful love story. The male hornbill feeds the female, who has locked herself in the nest to raise the young. This she will do daily for a few months.”

The clip shows a male hornbill feeding and feeding his female mate, who has locked herself inside a nest, with the help of her beak. Mr Kaswan said male hornbills would continue to do so for the next few months.
In a follow-up tweet, Mr Kaswan gave more details about the hornbills, also known as the “perfect couple”.
This is the story of hornbills who are the ideal couple and also known as the gardeners of the jungle. How? There are 9 species of hornbills found in India. From Great to Grey. Hornbills are generally monogamous. The pair goes on for a long time. Here’s a wreathed hornbill pair,” he said.
They go together and live for a very long time.

Hornbill couples move in together, are very long-lived, and when expecting babies, they go to nest. Describing the type of nest they prefer, he said, “It could be a natural cavity in a tree or the nest of another bird or their old nest.”
Once the couple finds a suitable home, the female locks herself in it and stays there for three to four months, depending on the species, the official said. Throughout the process, the great hornbill male “try to stay close to the family for safety, as well as to feed and survive.”

Now time will test him. The female will remain inside the nest with just a small opening for the next 3-4 months. Was looking outside and waiting for husband with food. The sooner the babies are out of the eggs, the more food is needed. pic.twitter.com/8PUS6VsP5s

Along with this, the male should also protect the nest. He has to keep a close eye on the surrounding area. Also try to find the best figs in town. As the children grow, she has to collect more food. pic.twitter.com/BquNidT7AC

They swallow the fruits whole. They spread them wherever they go, especially where there are nests.
