Video of ‘itchy’ elephant rubbing and damaging car goes viral

A video clip from an undisclosed location has gone viral for both true and false reasons. As can be seen in the video, a wild elephant crossing the road is scratching itself with a car passing through the forest. The video is both hilarious and terrifying and has crossed 2.3 million views and over 46,000 likes on Twitter alone. The clip was recently shared by Twitter user Buitengebieden. In the clip, the wild elephant approaches the vehicle and starts rubbing itself against the vehicle, a gray colored palanquin. Due to the heavy build of the mammal, the car is badly damaged, especially the bonnet area being crushed by the weight of the elephant.

As can be seen, the elephant first tries to climb onto the left front wheel of the car. It later moves forward and almost sits on the bonnet of the car so that the rear side gets scratched. Although not satisfied with this, the elephant almost stands on the car and, in the process, breaks the bonnet of the car, which separates from the vehicle as the driver overturns the car.

“What do you do when you have an itch and you’re an elephant?” The caption of the post reads. While the clip has divided internet users, it also raises serious security concerns for people passing through the forest area.

One user jokingly wrote, “I’m imagining to explain this to the insurance company.” Another said, “How can one not believe that an elephant scratched their butt on their car? Lol.” A third commented, “I would be frightened and break a rib trying to laugh at the same time,” while a fourth joked, “The elephant is using the car as toilet paper”.

There are many such forest roads in India, where car drivers have to face wild animals, especially elephants, on a daily basis. In North India alone, Rajaji National Park and Corbett National Park are known for the presence of elephants on the roads with heavy vehicular movement.
