Video shows restaurant full of diners peacefully enjoying food during protests in Paris

Protests intensified in France on Tuesday

A video going viral on the internet shows a restaurant in Paris packed with diners enjoying their food peacefully while a fire burns in the streets outside. The video was posted on Twitter by Pavel Wargan. “The French really did the ‘it’s okay’ meme,” he captioned the post.

“It’s okay,” Mr. Wargan said, referencing a famous meme of a cartoon dog sitting in a burning house. Several people re-shared the tweet on social media, saying the meme was apt for the current situation in France.

The French President is facing his biggest political crisis ever. French President Emmanuel Macron’s government scrapped a controversial pension reform through parliament without a vote, sparking angry protests in Paris and other cities, according to an AFP report.

The French government used a special constitutional power to pass legislation without a vote, which amounted to an admission that the government lacked a majority to raise the retirement age from 62 to 64.

Protests intensified in France on Tuesday after the government narrowly avoided a no-confidence vote, according to The Guardian. There have been more than 1500 protests in the cities—where cans were burned, as well as rings, roadblocks, docker protests, barricaded university buildings, train-track invasions at stations, refinery protests, and power blackouts by strikers.
