video | Siddaramaiah meets Karnataka Governor, stakes claim to form government

Congress’s Chief Ministerial choice Siddaramaiah today met the Governor of Karnataka to stake claim to form the government. The swearing-in ceremony will take place on Saturday. This comes after five days of suspense over the next chief minister of Karnataka after the Congress came up with a win-win formula. Siddaramaiah will be the next Chief Minister of Karnataka and DK Shivakumar will be his deputy. But the Chief Minister’s post has not completely gone away from Mr. Shivkumar. Sources say there is a rough understanding of 50:50 power-sharing, under which Mr Shivakumar could replace Mr Siddaramaiah midway through the term, depending on the party’s performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
