Sonmarg: Two back-to-back fresh avalanches were witnessed on Saturday (January 14) at Sabral in Jammu and Kashmir’s Sonamarg. The twin avalanches hit Sabral, a temporary residential area for workers of the Zoila tunnel project in central Kashmir, around 5.30 pm on Saturday. Some damage to the workshop was reported and rescue teams as well as admiralty parties were dispatched to the spot.
SSP Ganderbal said that a low-intensity avalanche occurred in Sarbal area, where the workshop of Hyderabad-based Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Limited (MEIL) is located. Company officials said that all are safe. no loss of life It is being told now. Police and SDRF are closely monitoring the situation.

Jammu and Kashmir: 7 avalanches in 4 days, 7 including 3 army personnel died
Due to continuous heavy snowfall in the Union Territory, there have been 7 avalanches in the last four days in Jammu and Kashmir. Out of 7 avalanches, four occurred in Sonamarg and one each in Kupwara and Gurez and one in Dachan area of Kishtwar district in Jammu and 5 people died in these incidents.
Two laborers were killed when two avalanches hit Sarbal, the same place where a double avalanche hit Sonamarg in central Kashmir on Saturday. One worker died in the initial phase, while another body was found after a massive five-hour rescue operation.
Four days ago, on January 11, an avalanche occurred in the snow-covered Machil Kupwara, in which three soldiers, including a JCO, died after falling into a gap in the snow.

Avalanche warning in 10 districts of Jammu and Kashmir
The Jammu and Kashmir State Disaster Management Authority on Friday issued an avalanche warning in several districts of Jammu and Kashmir in view of heavy snowfall since morning.
As per communication, there is a possibility of avalanches above 2000 meters in Bandipora and Kupwara districts with high danger level in next 24 hours.
“Avalanches with medium danger level are likely to occur above 2000 meters in Baramulla and Ganderbal districts and avalanches with low danger level above 2000 meters in Anantnag, Doda, Kishtwar, Kulgam, Poonch and Ramban districts in next 24 hours” likely to happen.” “Reads communication.
