Village One launched to provide door-to-door services in 12 districts of Karnataka

Gram Van, which seeks to provide multiple government services under one roof in rural areas, was launched on January 26 by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai in 12 districts. The services will be extended to all districts across Karnataka by the end of March.

Earlier, Village One was run on a trial basis in four districts to understand the challenges as it is a technology based service offering. It enables access to a range of services offered by the Agriculture, Horticulture, Revenue, Women and Child Development departments.

“The services being provided at the doorstep will ensure convenience to those who now have to spend time and money to reach the taluk office to get the services. It will also remove middlemen,” Mr Bommai said during the virtual launch in Bengaluru. More than 6 lakh applications have been approved during the pilot project in 4 districts. I have instructed the officials to make the system more efficient. The Deputy Commissioners should consider it the priority of the government and bring qualitative change in life.

Later, speaking to reporters, Mr Bommai said that around 25 services will be offered in Village One first, before the number is increased to 100. “Gram Van will be extended to all gram panchayats in all districts before the end of March,” he said.

Stating that the program would be continuously monitored to improve the efficiency level, he said, “A special cell will be set up with equipment and technical personnel to improve the efficiency in the offices of Tehsildars. The e-governance department will review the programme.
