Viral picture: Weird round shaped wounds on fish shocked the internet

The Internet called the image straight out of a “horror movie”.

A viral picture showing strange circular bite marks on the body of a tuna fish is making people cry on social media. A professional angler known as Trampman Bermagui posted a photo of the sea creature on Facebook on October 29, titled “Serious Cookie-Cutter Bites on This Tuna”.

The image showed the fish with strange wounds that were far apart from a bite mark, very similar to the claw mark being too round and random. At least half a dozen pieces of meat were missing from the belly and sides of the fish.

Since being shared, the picture has garnered over 1,000 likes and over 150 comments. While some Internet users said the image was straight out of a “horror movie”, others wrote, “as if there weren’t enough things to be scared of in the ocean”.

“A terrifying horror movie,” wrote one user. “Never seen one with such a bite,” said another. “They’re not bites. They’re skin ulcers from bacteria or mastic,” pointed out a third.

However, according to the original poster, it was a cookie-cutter shark, a species that nibbles on its prey without killing it. According to Miami HeraldCookie cutters are one of the world’s “lesser known” sharks and also one of the strongest.

Even though they are just 18 meters in length, the species is reportedly responsible for three attacks on humans in 2019. Cookie-cutters attach themselves to their prey, stick out their teeth, turn around and slice into a perfectly circular piece of meat.
