Viral Video: Man Films Huge Sea Snake Swimming Near Him

Brody Moss filmed a sea snake swimming up to his paddle board

Australian YouTuber Brodie Moss was paddle boarding when he saw a sea snake floating up its hair. The video, which he shared on Instagram two days ago, shows the snake displaying unusually bold behavior as it swims up to the paddle board. While sea snakes generally avoid humans, Mr Moss explained that they become “sexually depressed and potentially aggressive” at this time of year.

“Sea snakes generally avoid humans but at this time of year they become very active, sexually frustrated and potentially aggressive as they seek a mate,” he wrote while sharing the video which was equal parts It’s scary and alluring.

The YouTuber said that the snake in his video appeared from the ocean floor and followed it before disappearing. The footage shows the reptile keeping its head on a paddle board for a few moments before turning around and swimming.

The video has garnered nearly a million views on Instagram since it was shared two days ago. It also made its way to other social media platforms like Twitter.

“Australians are not real people,” wrote one Twitter user, referring to the stereotype that Australians have become used to the presence of dangerous animals.

Sea snakes, also known as coral reef snakes, are snakes that live most or all of the time in water. Most of the sea snakes discovered so far are extremely venomous.
