Virat Kohli unlikely to continue as ODI captain? Rohit Sharma to captain in T20 against New Zealand Cricket News – Times of India

New Delhi: Rohit Sharma He is expected to lead the Indian cricket team in three T20 Internationals against New Zealand starting November 17, while Virat KohliThe future as an ODI captain will be discussed at a meeting of the BCCI leadership and national selectors over the next few days.
The chances of outgoing T20 captain Kohli losing the ODI captaincy are high.
As was reported on 31 October, another failure to win the ICC tournament would put the future of his leadership in doubt and when the BCCI President Sourav Ganguly And Secretary Jay Shah will hold a virtual meeting with the national selectors in a couple of days, the issue of leadership will be discussed.
Currently, India do not have any ODI assignments this year and next year too, there are very few 50-over games on the schedule with another T20 World Cup to be played in Australia.
“First things first, the team for the New Zealand series needs to be decided. Rohit hasn’t said yet that he doesn’t want to lead in T20 Internationals against New Zealand. And why wouldn’t he want to lead? It’s his. The first is a full-time T20 series as captain,” a senior BCCI official told PTI if Rohit would be rested.
However, some sources have indicated that top players like Rohit may take a break from the two Tests against New Zealand in Kanpur (November 25-29) and Mumbai (December 3-7).
It could well be that those who have been rested for T20Is will come back for Tests, while some who play the shortest version will get a break before the South Africa tour that starts in late December.
Kohli unlikely to continue as ODI captain
India have only three 50-over games in the current home season with all matches against West Indies in February. The BCCI wants to prepare a master plan for two years ahead of the 2023 World Cup here.
While they are in no hurry to announce a new ODI captain, it is certain that they will not want a different white-ball captain for just three matches with 17 T20Is in India till June.
However, India has an ODI series in South Africa before that and it remains to be seen whether Kohli will step down from the 50-over captaincy voluntarily or wait for the BCCI to nudge him.
Either way, his leadership in the white-ball days is few.
Hardik Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar likely to be dropped

It is expected that in-form Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Hardik Pandya, whose fitness remains an unsolved enigma, are likely to be dropped from the T20I squad against New Zealand.
