District Collector A. Mallikarjuna hoisted the national flag and remembered the sacrifice of Amarjeevi Potti Sriramulu on the occasion of Andhra Pradesh Foundation Day celebrations here on Tuesday.

The collector paid tribute by garlanding the statue of Mahatma Gandhi. Later, he garlanded the paintings of Amarjeevi Potti Sriramulu and Telugu Thalli

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Mallikarjuna recalled that Potti Sriramulu had sacrificed his life for the formation of a separate state on linguistic lines, demanding separation from Madras State. Later, he informed about the various development works going on in the district.

Mayor Golgani Hari Venkata Kumari called upon the people to follow the path shown by Potti Sriramulu. He said that he had fasted for 58 days and had sacrificed his life for the formation of a separate state.

Zilla Parishad President J. Subhadra, MLC Varudhu Kalyani, Police Commissioner Ch. Srikanth and Joint Collector KS Vishwanathan were among the speakers.

Patriotic dances, songs and plays were presented by the students of various schools on the occasion.

Gajuwaka MLA T. Nagareddy, DCP Sumit Sunil Garuda, DRO Srinivasa Murthy, Food Commission member B. Kantha Rao, Chairman of various corporations KK Raju, Palla Chinthalli. Kola Guruvulu, Pila Sujatha and K. Ramadevi was present.

Under the aegis of Telugu Dandu an event was organized to pay tribute to Amarjeevi at the statue of Telugu Thalli at Madilapalem Junction.

Students, artists, litterateurs and city stalwarts participated and paid tribute to Telugu Thalli.

Surapaneni Vijay Kumar and Yarlagadda Lakshmi Prasad garlanded the statue.

Dandu Phanisayana Suri, the founder of Telugu, said that Andhra Pradesh was the first state to be established on linguistic basis.

In a separate program at Anakapalli, District Collector Ravi Pattanashetty called upon the people to follow the path shown by Amarjeevi Potti Sriramulu and work for the development of the state. He said that the separate state was achieved only after struggles and called upon the people to make efforts to uphold their ideals.

Joint Collector Kalpana Kumari said that national development is possible only when the state has achieved development in all areas.
