Andhra Pradesh: In a major development, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday confirmed that the state capital will be shifted to Visakhapatnam. He made the remarks while presiding over a preparatory meeting for the Global Investors Summit to be held in Visakhapatnam in March.

Speaking at the meeting, the chief minister said he would shift his office to the port city in the coming months. The present capital of the state is Amaravati.

What did CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy say?

CM Reddy said, “Here I am inviting you to Visakhapatnam, which is going to be our capital in the coming days. I myself will also shift to Visakhapatnam in the coming months.”

In November last year, the Jagan Mohan Reddy-led government repealed the controversial AP Decentralization and Inclusive Development of All Regions Act, 2020, which aimed to set up three capitals for the state.

The state government had proposed three capitals, Visakhapatnam (executive capital), Amaravati (legislative capital) and Kurnool (judicial capital).

The Chief Minister further said that the State Government is organizing the Global Investors Summit on March 3 and 4 in Visakhapatnam and urged the corporate community to participate in the meeting and invest in the State.
