A woman sitting in the verandah of the house was killed, while her daughter was seriously injured after being hit by a car in Sitanagaram under New Port police station area of the city on Wednesday night.
The identity of the deceased woman Chandramma (56). His daughter Venkata Dhanalakshmi is undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Chandramma and Dhanalakshmi were sitting outside their house at around 10.30 pm on Wednesday night when a person named Ganapati, who lives in front of their house, tried to get their car in reverse gear. However, he apparently lost control of the car and overturned. Chandramma died on the spot, while her daughter sustained serious injuries.
According to the police, the driver claimed that there was a problem in starting the vehicle. He told police that he allegedly tried to start the car in reverse gear, and failed to control it.
New Port Police is investigating after registering a case.
