In a video message on his Twitter handle, Sinha contacted all the MPs saying that the Constitution provides that the vote will be secret and there will be no party whip which means they can personally determine who they vote for. want.

He said, “The election of the President of India is being held this time under extraordinary circumstances. The country is facing many problems on various fronts but the most important problem we are facing is the problem of protecting and protecting our Constitution. ” ,

He said in a video shot at Rajpath here that constitutional provisions and its values ​​are being openly violated by some people in this country, elected governments are being brought down, all this is against the spirit of democracy enshrined in the Constitution. .

“So therefore this year’s presidential election is not really a contest between two individuals, it is a contest between two ideologies. On the one hand, we have no use for the values ​​of the Constitution, but on the other, our We have a dedicated group of people who want to protect the Constitution and its values.”

“Therefore, I appeal to you, in your discretion, to exercise your vote in the context of the Constitution. The Constitution provides that the vote shall be secret but there shall be no party whip, which means that you must determine whether you Whom do you want to vote for,” he said in his appeal to MLAs and MPs.

He urged the voters to listen to their “inner voice”, see the various problems of the country and shower their blessings on them in this election.

Meanwhile, Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi national president Prakash Ambedkar requested Sinha to withdraw from the presidential race as several Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes members of the parties were planning to vote in favor of NDA’s presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu. are.

Sinha, a bureaucrat-turned-politician, held important portfolios such as foreign and finance ministers in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government.

The electoral college that elects the President through the system of proportional representation consists of elected MPs and members of state legislatures. Nominated MPS, MLAs and members of Legislative Council are not entitled to vote in this election.

Voting in the presidential election takes place in the Parliament House and in the state legislatures. Counting is going on in Parliament House. This time the election is on July 18 and counting of votes is on July 21.

Sinha is facing a tough contest as the vote share of his rival NDA candidate Murmu is likely to reach nearly two-thirds mark in the polls.
