I want to make more films for women because growing up, I felt there weren’t enough films for girls. I didn’t get enough representation.
“When you see someone on screen, that’s what you want to be… When you see strong women on screen it’s so inspiring. The actor made his cinema debut with the Tamil superhero film “Mugamoodi”, but it was Ashutosh Gowariker’s 2016 period film “Mohenjo Daro” that brought him wide fame despite not doing well at the box office. Hegde said the film’s failure is a setback for him.
“When you come from a non-film background and your first film doesn’t do well, it holds you back a little bit. It’s not like I’ve had the top filmmakers in the country say, ‘Don’t worry, one more chance. Take it.
Hegde said that he decided to get back on his feet and started looking for opportunities in South cinema.
I was getting a lot of offers in Hindi after ‘Mohenjo Daro’, but they weren’t something I was excited about or wanted to do. Also, South cinema was giving me such amazing films and I just went there Where the content was. I went with my heart and my gut feeling.”
Hegde is currently opposite superstar Prabhas in the multilingual film “Radhe Shyam”, which hit the theaters across the country last week. Written and directed by Radha Krishna Kumar, the film stars Prabhas as Vikramaditya, a palmist who struggles between his love for destiny and Prerna, essayed by Hegde.
The actor said that she was supposed to work with Prabhas in another film, but it did not happen. But luck brought them together in “Radheshyam”.
“I think I had luck somewhere in this film and that is why I was offered this character of Prerna. It is such a beautiful and layered character. It has so many shades. She is not an average Hindi heroine film character. There was so much depth to that and that’s something I loved about it. I love love stories. So I was very happy that in a commercial film on such a large scale, I got to be a part of a love story. “
