Kravchuk terminated his contract with Russian side Torpedo Moscow and fled to Manchester after Russia’s invasion of his homeland.

City have received permission from the Home Office and football officials for Kravchuk to work with their under-23 team for the rest of the season.

FIFA has allowed foreign players in Russia and Ukraine to temporarily suspend their contracts to travel elsewhere.

However, the Premier League does not allow any such player to be registered for first-team action until the end of the season.

The arrangement was set up by the city’s Ukraine international Oleksandr Zinchenko, who was a childhood friend of Kravchuk’s since both were at the Shakhtar Donetsk Academy.

Kravchuk joined City for the first time on Thursday.

“I am very grateful to Manchester City for giving me the opportunity to train with them,” said the 23-year-old.

“The last few weeks and months have been very tough, but getting back on the pitch means a lot to me.”

When the war broke out, Kravchuk was in a training camp in Turkey with torpedoes Moscow.

“I had good people around me in the club but I was playing in a country that invaded my homeland,” he said.

“The only decision was to leave the club. The people of Ukraine will not understand me if I continue to play there.”

Zinchenko has continued to play despite the scourge of the war back home and has been fueled by shows of support from both City and opposition fans.

“While I wish the circumstances were very different, it’s nice to be back with Andrey today,” Zinchenko said.

“I know how much football means to him, and how it can help us through this difficult time. I want to thank my club for giving him the opportunity to train with us.”
