Warne, Sachin, Lara’s friendship: Good friends off the field, wrote Australian spinner

Sachin Tendulkar was “shocked, shocked and saddened” upon learning of Shane Warne’s death, while West Indies cricket legend Brian Lara said “my friend is gone”. Obviously, Sachin, Lara and Warne were great friends off the field as well, long after their retirement from international cricket. Posting a picture of a great threesome last year, Warne said, “Great battles on the field and great friends on the field.”

Legendary Australian spinner Shane Warne, known as the spin king, died of a heart attack on Friday. “Shane was found unresponsive in his villa and, despite the best efforts of the medical staff, could not be revived,” a statement on the Fox website said. “The family requests confidentiality at this time and will provide further details in due course,” it added.

On receiving the news, Sachin Tendulkar said on Twitter, will miss you Warney. There was never a dull moment with you on or off the field. Will always cherish our on field duets and off field banquets. You always had a special place for India and Indians had a special place for you. Got too young!

Meanwhile, Brain Lara took to Twitter to express, and is speechless at the moment. I really don’t know how to reconcile this situation. My friend is gone!! We have lost one of the greatest players of all time!! My condolences are with his family. RIP Varney!! you will be missed.

Last year, the Australian cricketer posted an iconic picture of the three of them, noting how their friendship flourished off the field as well. He took to Instagram to say, Great fight on the field and great friends on the field! The three of us always tried our best to entertain and play the game in the right spirit – as well as inspire people

Posting another picture earlier, he had said, “These two guys were clearly and easily the best two batsmen I’ve played with or against and also the best of my generation (1989-2013) @sachintendulkar and @brianlaraofficial! Did you enjoy watching the three of us play and fight on the field?
