Watch: Indore street food vendor stuns netizens by selling fusion pizza dal pakwan

Dal Pakwan is a popular Sindhi breakfast, which can be eaten for lunch and dinner as well. Those who are unfamiliar with dal pakwan should know that it is an Indian dish made from chickpea lentils and served with pakwan, a deep-fried, crispy batter made from maida or all-purpose flour, salt, oil and cumin Bread. But have you ever wondered what an Italian-inspired version of the classic Indian dish would be like? Unexpectedly, we came across a video of a street vendor selling Pizza Dal Pakwan, a unique fusion dish that is garnering attention on social media.

An Instagram user recently posted a video of a street vendor from Indore, who is selling Pizza Dal Pakwan for Rs 120. In the video you can see that the vendor is first cooking the dal and tempering it. Then put the dish in a plate and spread mayonnaise, then put another piece of dish over it and mix mayonnaise again with tomato ketchup and green chutney. Further he adds sev, grated paneer, chopped onions and tomatoes. He sprinkles spices liberally and uses a blow torch to melt the cheese. Above the video, the user wrote, “Yeh khaya hai kabhi?” (Have you ever eaten it?)

The video garnered around 913 comments with people sharing their hilarious reactions to this unique fusion food. One chef commented, “In my tenure of 28 years, I always thought it was about technique, balance of spices, handling temperature, combination of ingredients, but now I have learned from social media university…. ….. brother it’s all – Butter, Cheese and Mayonnaise!!”

Another user didn’t like the dish either; He commented, “Instagram needs a dislike button ASAP.”

While another user shared that it is best to cook dal pakwan the traditional way with Indian spices. He remarked, “There is no need to do all this…a simple dish of boiled gram dal and green chutney and green chillies is all we need.”
