SRH captain Aiden Markram, who top-scored for the side with 41, admitted that his team got it wrong during the ‘crunch part’ of the match. “I thought we played good cricket for a large part of that game but unfortunately in crunch time we got it wrong. So it’s hard to swallow. Classy batted brilliantly. I struggled a lot back then and I believe that is partly a big reason why we came up short. But Klaasen played well, took some pressure off me and then I was able to get back on my feet. But those partnerships, we need to take a little longer and those partnerships are what win you the game. I thought the bowlers were good,” Markram said after the match.

Batting first, KKR scored 171 for nine with Rinku Singh scoring 46 off 35 balls and skipper Nitish Rana scoring 42 off 31 balls. SRH looked on course for a win, needing 38 runs to win from the last 5 overs and 9 runs to win off the last over but Varun Chakravarthy bowled a brilliant last over and conceded only 3 runs in it.

“The boys threw themselves around the ground which was good to watch and then with the bat we put together a few partnerships but at the end of it, those partnerships weren’t enough to get us over the line. You would be wrong to try to be aggressive. Ultimately the guys have played enough cricket to know when the time is right and we will continue to support them and their decision making. Hopefully this is a situation that brings out the best in us. I thought we played some pretty good cricket tonight so not getting two points is not ideal and not great. But from tonight we can take some confidence and get four out of four points.
