A heart-wrenching video of a man risking his life by jumping into a half-frozen lake to save a drowning dog has gone viral on social media. The video, taken at Sloan Lake in Colorado, US, shows the brave man fearlessly jumping into the lake to save Loki, a husky dog who was struggling to get out of the icy water.

Instagram user Holly Morphew, who shared the video, said that the dog ran into the lake while chasing the swan. Without thinking about his own safety, the man, now identified as Jason Schidgel, stripped off his clothes and dived in to save the dog.

He explained, “Yesterday my friend and I went for a walk around Sloan Lake. We saw a dog running at full speed chasing swans from the other side of the lake. We watched in horror as the snow would soon be gone. It happened, and the dog landed in the lake. It struggled for a long time as we watched helplessly, praying it would break enough ice to get to shore. But it was tiring and we could see that the struggle was not going to last long. We called 911 and the fire department was on the way. We weren’t sure their defense would be fast enough. That’s why a #Veer took off his clothes and went inside to save him. I’m very happy to say she did, and both she and the dog were fine.”
