Watch: Mumbai family rejoices as son scores 35% in 10th board exams

The video was shared by bureaucrat Awanish Sharan

In India, academic success is mostly linked to marks. More than that, Indian boards are obsessed with exam results and expect their children to score top scores, as they believe that high marks guarantee success. The results bring both joy and disappointment to hundreds of families across the country.

However, a family in Mumbai broke the stereotype and celebrated their son passing his 10th board exams even when he scored only 35%. The student completed his 10th standard from a Marathi medium school and secured 35 marks in all 6 subjects thereby securing 35% marks in his SSC exam. Instead of scolding him, or getting angry, the boy’s parents were proud and happily displayed his marks. The video has been shared by IAS officer Avnish Sharan.

”A class 10th student from Mumbai secured 35% marks in the examination. But instead of being sad or angry, her parents celebrated her success,” reads the caption of the video when translated from Hindi.

Internet users were pleasantly surprised and delighted to see the heartwarming reaction of the parents.

One user wrote, “Congratulations to the boy and to the parents for being the parents every student needs.”

Another commented, “Great initiative. Parents should not put pressure on their children to score good marks. They need to stay positive. Parental pressure can often make children prone to stress and anxiety. They are more likely to be insecure and doubt their own abilities.

A third shared a similar experience, and wrote, “I still remember I scored 46.7% in class 10th and my mother distributed 1 kg besan ladoo packets to all our neighbors. Thank you Maa for always believing in me.

The fourth added, “Due to the support given by the parents, the boy definitely becomes a good person and becomes successful in the future.”
