The encounter between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) may have been low-scoring but it was nothing short of dramatic action on the field. In match no, RCB beat LSG by 18 runs. 43rd match of IPL 2023 at Ekana Stadium in Lucknow but after the match Lucknow bowler Naveen-ul-Haq refused to shake hands with Virat Kohli and there was a heated argument between the two.

During the 17th over of the LSG chase, an argument broke out between Kohli and Naveen-ul-Haq after an angry Mohammad Siraj cut the wickets at the end of his over while the Afghanistan bowler was trying to take a run. Former India leg-spinner Amit Mishra and the on-field umpire had to step in to calm the situation.

Once the game was over, Kohli tried to shake hands with Naveen-ul-Haq but the LSG bowler aggressively pulled his hand away. Kohli was seen answering him aggressively and RCB all-rounder Glenn Maxwell had to step in to separate the two.

After a while, KL Rahul requested Naveen-ul-Haq to shake hands with Kohli, but the LSG bowler once again aggressively turned down his captain’s request. All hell broke loose shortly after as Kohli and LSG custodian Gautam Gambhir again got into an altercation.

Both Kohli and Gambhir have been fined 100 per cent of their match fees. While Naveen-ul-Haq was fined 50 per cent of his match fee for breaching Level 2 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct.

“Lucknow Super Giants bowler Naveen-ul-Haq fined 50 per cent of match fee for breaching IPL Code of Conduct during Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s match against Royal Challengers Bangalore during Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 has been applied. Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow. Mr Naveen-ul-Haq admitted to a Level 1 offense under Article 2.21 of the IPL Code of Conduct,” read an IPL statement.

Meanwhile, LSG stand-in captain Krunal Pandya revealed KL Rahul’s injury after the match. “It is a sad thing. I think he pulled his hip flexor. I don’t know how bad it is. The medical team will assess it,” said Kunal Pandya.
