Watch: Snake enters BJP office during counting of votes in Karnataka

The snake was rescued and the camp office secured.

A strange incident took place in Shiggaon constituency, where Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai is seeking re-election for the fourth time, as the counting of votes for the assembly elections in Karnataka was underway.

A snake had entered the BJP camp office premises in Shiggaon, causing panic among the people present there, but it was later rescued and the building premises were secured in the presence of the CM.

Shiggaon is one of the closest seats since Congress candidate Yasir Ahmed Khan Pathan and Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai saw a close contest. According to reports, CM Basavaraj Bommai, who is seeking re-election for the fourth time in a row, has a strong electoral advantage.

However, after a high-decibel campaign during which all three major players—the current BJP, the Congress and the Janata Dal (Secular)—took each other out at stops and heavy campaigners to woo voters, the decision was taken by the Karnataka Assembly. The battle now rests in the people’s court and the results will be out in a few hours.

This assembly election was of great importance as it was held almost a year before the 2024 general election.

Karnataka has never brought the incumbent back to power since 1985, and the BJP will be hoping to do so for the first time in a bid to make a comeback in the southern state.

Legislative Assembly elections were held in Karnataka on 10 May 2023 to elect all 224 members of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly.

Polling was conducted peacefully with Karnataka recording the highest voter turnout of 73.19 per cent, surpassing the 72.36 per cent recorded in 2018.
