Yellow lentils, cooked with various spices, topped with a tempering of ghee and a few spices – this dish is a mantra of indulgence. Spinach Dal Tadka is easy, nutritious and can be prepared in no more than 15-20 minutes. This special recipe has been shared by food vlogger Parul on her YouTube channel ‘Cook with Parul’.

Method for making Palak Dal Tadka:

  • First of all, clean the chana dal and soak it in water for at least an hour. After this, wash and chop the spinach. Then pressure cook the chana dal with cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, turmeric, salt, asafoetida and ghee.
  • After this, put some ghee in a pan and add cumin, asafoetida, fennel, ginger, garlic to it. Add turmeric and red chili powder and mix well. Add chopped tomatoes, salt to taste, water and mix well.
  • Then, add coriander powder, cumin powder and kasoori methi and mix well. Add chopped spinach, mix well and cook with the lid closed. Add cooked chana dal and mix well.
  • Prepare tempering by adding ghee, cumin, garlic, green chilies, ginger, dry red chilies. Switch off the gas and add Kashmiri red chilli powder. Pour the tempering over the cooked dal and close the lid.
  • Garnish with chopped coriander leaves, ginger julienne, and green chilies and you have a ready-to-eat palak dal tadka.
